Dear Readers, I talked about adventure tourism in the previous article, and today I have brought up the topic of sports tourism.
Sports tourism refers to traveling to attend or witness an event
as you all know, sports tourism is the fastest growing sector in the tourism
industry.
I mentioned in my articles that there are all kinds of
tourism opportunities in Pakistan which attracts thousands of domestic and
foreign tourists every year. So Pakistan is not behind anyone in sports
tourism. Pakistan's sports tourism industry is growing quickly as more and more travelers show an interest in participating in sports, while some travelers only come to observe.
Cricket, hockey, kabaddi, soccer, baseball, volleyball, desert jeep safaris, wrestling, golf, polo, mountain biking, snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, canoeing, and bear hunting are among the sports available in Pakistan.
BENEFITS OF SPORTS TOURISM
Everyone is aware of the many health benefits of physical activity, which also serves as an excellent form of exercise.
Sports tourism is undoubtedly a reflection of a nation's social and cultural advancement. Pakistan's sports tourism industry is expanding quickly and is becoming increasingly significant to the country's economic growth.
When Pakistan hosts world championship competitions in a variety of sports, thousands of domestic and international fans travel there, sleeping in hotels, dining at restaurants, purchasing souvenirs from shops, and utilizing public transportation, creating extra jobs for Pakistanis.Millions of people would have engaged in this activity, whether it was through advertising running on it or discussion from analysts, because sports tourism employs millions of people in addition to those participating in the sector.Additionally, the overall revenue exceeds billions of rupees.
Together, these elements significantly contribute to a nation's economic growth on a daily basis.
SHANDUR POLO FESTIVAL
Polo was introduced to South Asia by the Muslim conquerors the
world's highest polo ground is located at the 3700 m high Shandur Top in
Chitral a traditional polo tournament is held every year in mid-July between
teams from Chitral and Ghazar a fair is organized in this tournament where music
and dance are arranged to entertain the people. The game played on top of
Shandur has now become legendary and has become a center of interest for
international and domestic tourists in the game of polo.
CHOLISTAN DESERT JEEP RALLY
Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally is an emerging sports tourism sector
in Pakistan that started in 2005 in three districts of Punjab including Rahim
Yar Khan Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur.
The Cholistan Desert is the most attractive in Pakistan located
in the south of Punjab Jeep rally is organized here every year, it aims to
present a positive image of Pakistan to the world by highlighting the real and
charming beauty of the beautiful landscapes of South Punjab. This promotes
tourism and increases employment for the local inhabitants of the Cholistan
desert.
This year the rally was held in the grand desert of Cholistan
from 8th to 13th February 2020 with the largest number of racers participating.
This time the rally route was extended to 500 km where the racers challenged
the sands of the Cholistan in different categories. However, more improvements
are needed to further expand this sector.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Mountain Biking is a unique sport of off-road bicycle racing for
which bikes are specially designed it can run on rough terrains like mountains,
deserts, or rocks it requires a lot of skill to operate only a skilled and
professional person can compete in different places by maintaining balance on
his bike.
District Administration, Chakwal, in collaboration with
Metropolitan Corporation, Islamabad organizes off-road mountain cycling
competitions to engage youth in healthy activities.

KABADDI
This traditional game of Pakistan is usually played on a muddy
field, but when international Kabaddi competitions are held, they are played on
sports grounds.
Pakistan is now hosting Kabaddi World Champion tournaments like
any other popular sport attracting a large number of foreign spectators which
is a boon for Pakistan's economy.
TENT PEGGING
Tent pegging or javelin is an ancient traditional game played in
the region and is very popular in all four provinces of Pakistan. It is an
equestrian sport that is officially recognized by the International Equestrian
Federation as well as by the governing body of the sport at the Olympic Council
of Asia.
This traditional game is played on horseback, with
horsemen wearing traditional vests and turbans driving their spears or swords
into wooden stakes half-buried in the dry ground.
Being an important part of cultural events and festivals in most
parts of Pakistan, this ancient sport attracts many local and foreign fans.
Various sports clubs organize competitions and horses are decorated accordingly
which is attractive and fun enough for tourists.
Thus, many tent pegging matches are held in Pakistan throughout
the year, but the National Horse and Cattle Show held at the Fortress Stadium
in Lahore are the most popular of them all. Apart from tent pegging, this
annual event also includes various exhibitions and other sports competitions.

Pakistan In short, sports tourism is a means of bringing people together and
bringing peace and prosperity to the country, the government needs to do more
